Internet Marketing (Online Marketing)
Not Just a Great Websites - Websites That Get Traffic
If you have a business, you have no doubt been pressured to do some online marketing. It is becoming tougher and tougher for small businesses to compete without a strong online presence. Business owners are not getting traction from the Yellow Pages any more. Think about it – when was the last time you found a business through the Yellow Pages. It is no longer good enough to just have a website. Companies need to market their business online.
Online marketing has become more complex, with various avenues for promotion of your small business on the web. Ways to market your business online include:
- Search Engine Optimization
- Online Advertising
- Social Media Marketing
1. Search Engine Optimization
Climbing to the Top of Google...
Search Engine Optimization (or SEO) is the methodical process taken to improve your website ranking in the search engines. Changes are done directly to your website, or work on external websites which link to your website. We feel that Search Engine Optimization / SEO is the most important part of marketing your business. The majority of the visits to your website will usually be through an online search. This is also the best bang for the buck. Once you have improved your position on Google, you will remain there for a period of time. But don't expect SEO to get you to the top of Google right away. This form of online marketing takes time for success and continued effort to maintain your ranking.

2. Online Advertising
Online Marketing with Instant Gratification...
Online Advertising means just that - advertising your business online. Creation of ads that lead to your business website may be graphical or text.
You can advertise on search engines (plus affiliates), on social media sites, or on other websites with content related to the products or services you provide. When you set up an ad, it runs right away.
You can launch a website and the next day have thousands of visitors come to your website through your ad(s).
Google Adwords is probably the most common location to advertise your business - but it may not be the best. Have the Websites By The Month crew create powerful online advertising campaigns to maximize the traffic to your website.
Online Advertising generally costs money. Search engines charge every time someone clicks on your ad or per impression (the number of times your Ad appears on the screen).
To have an effective Online Advertising campaign, you need to monetize your campaigns. You should have a goal (e.g. purchase of an item for an ecommerce site). Then you can determine costs versus how much you pay in advertising, which allows you to determine if it is worth the cost.

3. Social Media
Creating Conversations and Recommendations...
Social Media is a form of online marketing which is increasingly becoming an essential part of a business success. A good word or a recommendation goes a long way toward someone choosing or buying from an online company. Google knows this, and likely uses recommendations and comments to determine your placement in their rankings.
Facebook is excellent for creating dialogue with customers, and responding to good or bad press. Followers of your social media pages are linked with others. For example when you post on your Facebook Page, all those who like your page receive the message on their news feed. If they like the post, comment on the post or share it on their page, their friends may be able to then see what you’ve posted (depending on privacy settings). Other social media sites are similar, including Google Plus, LinkedIn, Twitter, Foursquare, Pinterest, and Instagram.
Of note, recommendations can even positively affect your Google rankings (in the case of Google Plus). So get a Google Plus account, and have people recommend your company!
